Surrender a Pet
Adoption Assistance Program:
The adoption assistance program allows owners to retain custody of their pets until a new permanent home is found.
In this program, the pet remains with the current family until a new family is found. There is no guarantee on the time required for a suitable new home to be found, it may only take days or may take months to find the right family, depending on the pet’s needs.
Requirements for surrendering a pet:
All pets require evaluation by one of our intake volunteers for general health and behavior prior to intake.
PAAW requires all owners requesting assistance in finding a new home for their pet to complete an owner surrender form.
In addition, animals must have the following in order to be placed up for adoption by the rescue:
- Animal must be up-to-date on current vaccines (rabies, distemper) and spayed or neutered. All cats require FELV/FIV testing prior to surrender.
- PAAW requires an owner surrender fee as follows to assist in providing the above medical care to the surrendered pet:
– Dogs and Adult Cats: $50 per pet
– Litters of Kittens or Puppies: $100 per litter (All litters of kittens require FELV/FIV test prior to surrender.)
Please Note: Submission of our surrender request form does not guarantee that PAAW will be able to take your pet into our program. However, we will do everything possible to assist owners in search of new homes for their pets. If we are able to assist, we will contact you to provide further information about our program and to make arrangements for placing your pet.
