Surrender a Pet

Life Just Happens: But you can do your part to help your pet find a new “furever” family!
PAAW frequently helps owners in need of finding new homes for their pets, as well as working with local animal shelters to assist shelter animals in finding new forever homes.
Unfortunately, we are living in tumultuous times, and the need for help is much, much greater than the help available. The work of the few in animal rescue can simply not keep up with the demand for help that is needed.
Therefore, we are currently not taking in owner surrender pets directly into our foster program. However, we CAN offer help through our Adoption Assistance Program, if you can foster your pet until they find a new home.
Adoption Assistance Program:
How it works:
The adoption assistance program allows owners to retain custody of their pets until a new permanent home is found.
What is required by owners:
- Stay in contact with the rescue regarding the pet and their availability to adopt.
- Transport pet to/from veterinary appointments and adoption shows.
- When available, attend weekly adoption shows. Shows are generally in Troy on Sat/Sun, sometimes in Warren, Farmington Hills or Livonia.
(Note: Attendance every weekend is not mandatory, but more attendance and more exposure = faster adoption). - Ensure all parties interested in adopting follow the adoption process/procedure, by submitting an application online at https://paawarren.org, and going through the stanard adoption process.
- Provide current vaccine records for pet.
- Cats – Rabies, Distemper, and Feluk/FIV Combo test.
- Dogs – Rabies, Distemper, Heartworm test
Note: If pet is not current on vaccines, we may be able to help coordinate getting updates on some vaccines. Please provide what is available, and we may be able to help on some items.
How PAAW will help:
- Post pets on our adoption websites after evaluation for adoption.
- Accept and screen applications to adopt, screen them to ensure that the applicant can provide a safe and stable home.
- Coordinate meetings between potential adopters and the original.
- There is no guarantee on the time required for a suitable new home to be found, it may only take days or may take months to find the right family, depending on the pet’s needs. Donations are non-refundable and are required as shown below:
- Individual adult animals: $50 per pet.
- Litters of Kittens or Puppies: $100 per litter (All litters of kittens require FELV/FIV test prior to surrender.
- Donations can be made at this link if you would like to participate in this program: Donate, however please do not donate until one of our volunteers has contacted you to offer acceptance into this program. Once that occurs, donation receipts can be sent to PAAWApplications@gmail.com.
PAAW requests an owner surrender donation as follows to support rescue efforts.
- Dogs and Adult Cats: $50 per pet.
- Litters of Kittens or Puppies: $100 per litter (All litters of kittens require FELV/FIV test prior to surrender).
Donate here to help keep our program going!
Please Note: Submission of our adoption assitance form does not guarantee that PAAW will be able to take your pet into our program. However, we will do everything possible to assist owners in search of new homes for their pets. If we are able to assist, we will contact you to provide further information about our program and to make arrangements for placing your pet.
