4. Where are PAAW’s dogs shown?

PAAW dogs are shown at the Warren Petco location on Saturdays and Sundays. Some dogs are available through Madison Heights or Hazel Park Animal Control. To adopt one of our dogs, a potential adopter should complete an adoption application on paper or online, and their information will be forwarded to the appropriate person to set up a time for them to meet the dog.

5. I received an adoption application, what should I do with it?

Completed applications should be photographed if possible using your cell phone and emailed to PAAWarren@aol.com.

Please make SURE the application is completely filled out with no missing lines prior to the applicant leaving. Nothing delays the processing of an application more than incomplete information. Be SURE that EMAIL address is included, as that is our primary form of communication.

If you are unable to photograph the application to email it in, please email the same address above to notify us that the application has been received.

At Petco Troy, applications that have already been sent in should have a line drawn diagonally across the application, and the application should be placed in the drawer of the wood stand next to the cat enclosures.

Petco Warren applications should use the same procedure, however applications should be left inside the plastic clip board inside the blue bins behind the cat enclosures.

Applications that have not yet been emailed in should NOT have a line drawn through them, which indicates the application still needs to be turned in for review.

6. One of the cats in the enclosures appears sick, and has a runny eye, sneezing, or other symptoms. What should I do?

  • Please email Michelle with all medical concerns at Michelle@PAAWarren.org.
  • If it is an immediate concern, please call instead at 586-216-9045.

7. I have a potential adopter who wants a xxxxxx, that we do not have at the store. What should I do?

Please direct the adopter to the PAAW website to see additional pets available for adoption. If possible, use the Petfinder computers available at both Petco locations to show the potential adopter other PAAW pets by doing a search for rescue group on the computer, and give the potential adopter a PAAW business card for use looking up pets at home.

8.) What is the adoption process?

Adopters first must complete a paper or online adoption application. There is a 24 to 48 hour waiting period for application review depending on how busy we are with applications, volunteer availability, and the clarity of the information provided by the adopter. If an adopter is interested in adopting but has not yet selected the specific pet, they should apply for pre-approval to expedite the adoption process more quickly once they have selected the animal they are interested in.

Once the application has been approved, the adoption will be scheduled at one of the two Petco locations for cats, or at the adopter’s home for dogs. An initial meeting is required 24 hours in advance of adoption for dogs to ensure that the dog is a good match for the family.
